Do As I Say, Not As I Do

I came across this image above and loved it! How often have you found yourself saying and doing some version of this? 

"Don't yell at me! I'm the only one allowed to yell!" is exactly our way of asking our kids to do as we say and not always as we do.

​So I ask you ... what are we asking and requiring of our children that we ourselves are not disciplined enough to follow through with? 
​

• Is it screen time? Well, how good are we at putting our devices to the side at mealtimes, practices, pick up, car time or other family moments?​
• Is it spending time outside? How good are we at enjoying the great outdoors and being mobile/active?
• Is it tidying up? Again, how good are we at up-keeping our own space? Perhaps we're picking up for everybody else, but what does our room/ desk/ closet/ bathroom look like?
• Is it to be on time? Lastly, how good are we at managing our personal time, planning ahead, preparing in advance or building time in for the unexpected?  

Remember -- our children model our behavior and what we do, they'll do. This week I encourage you to be self observant and take notice of how you're leading the charge! How is what we're doing manifesting itself in our children?

​Our role is truly unique as we get to inspire and motivate our children unlike anyone else because how we show up teaches them how to show up! Our children want to be with us, spend time with us, feel validated and appreciated by us. So, as they observe what we say AND what we do, may we take power in our own power of language, body language, facial expressions and tone. We are their guides and let's equip them with the tools to more positively navigate their experiences.
